Alaska Airlines requested that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issue a ground stop for all of its departing aircraft nationwide. An IT outage has caused systemwide issues for Alaska and Horizon Air flights.

The scale of the IT issue has yet to be fully determined and Alaska urges passengers to check the status of their specific flights. The ground stop impacts departing flights. Those already in the air are not being ordered to divert.

Alaska Airlines issued the following statement:

At approximately 8 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that’s impacting our operations. We requested a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska and Horizon Air flights until the issue is resolved. We apologize to our guests for this inconvenience. There will be residual impacts to our operation throughout the evening. If you are traveling tonight, please check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport,” the statement continued.”

Anthony’s Take: No word has been released on how long this is expected to last or what caused the issue. If you’re flying with Alaska tonight, check your flight’s status.
