Last summer, I wrote about Alaska Airlines partnering with Michelin-starred Mister Jiu’s restaurant for a special in-flight menu. This meal was only served between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Alaska has now expanded this relationship to bring Chef Jew’s modern twist to Cantonese cuisine on more flights. First Class passengers on flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) will soon be included.
Chef Jew’s new spring menu offers twists on traditional Chinese Food with dishes like the new Hong Kong French Toast and Tea-Smoked Soy Chicken hitting the menus. Alaska promises even more special menus in the future with this collaboration and others in the works.
Chef Brandon Jew commented on the collaboration:
I’m grateful to Alaska Airlines for partnering with me in honoring my roots and continuing to bring Chinese food to guests traveling from coast to coast. As I developed my first menu cycle, I learned to rely on sauces that are delicious on their own and to create dishes that evoke a sense of place – whether that’s reminding guests of home or getting them excited to visit San Francisco’s Chinatown where my restaurant is located.”
It’s not just First Class that will have something new to savor. Main Cabin passengers will also see a new option starting on April 30th. A 100% plant-based and gluten-free dish from the Seattle-based fast-casual restaurant known as Evergreens™ will be available in flight. The “Best Laid Plants” grain bowl is a mix of Chimichurri Tofu, avocado, quinoa, and a side of Mango Habanero Dressing. It will be available to Main Cabin guests for pre-order on most flights over 1,100 miles.
The full spring menu available in First Class, Premium Class and Main Cabin is available here.
Anthony’s Take: I love when airlines bring chefs in to create menus (when they actually are involved and not just rubber stamping a dish). Chef Jew’s menu sounds good and I want to try his restaurant in San Francisco.
