Last week, I wrote about Air Transat’s plans to pull out of the United States completely. Now, the Canadian airline is launching of several new seasonal routes to popular sunny destinations. In recent weeks, the carrier has inaugurated new nonstop flights from Quebec City, Windsor, Charlottetown, and Fredericton.

On February 18th, Air Transat operated its inaugural flight between Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) and Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (PTP) in Guadeloupe. The airline is now the only carrier offering nonstop service between the two cities. The departure took place in the newly designated Air Transat zone at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB). The route operates every Wednesday through April 29th and provides a direct link to Guadeloupe. Flights are operated with the Airbus A321LR.

Air Transat has also introduced three additional seasonal routes for the winter season:

  • Charlottetown Airport (YYG) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x weekly on Wednesdays; ends on April 22nd)
  • Fredericton International Airport (YFC) to/from Cancún International Airport (CUN) (1x weekly on Wednesdays; ends on April 22nd)
  • Windsor International Airport (YQG) to/from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) (1x weekly on Fridays; ends on April 10th)

These new routes provide local passengers with convenient nonstop access to warm-weather getaways during the winter months. Passengers can also take advantage of Transat’s all-inclusive vacation package to these destinations. With the addition of these seasonal services, Air Transat continues to strengthen its position as a leading leisure airline.

Anthony’s Take: These routes have just launched, but the question still remains around what Air Transat will add next once it ends US service in June.
