I’ve written several times about Air Transat. Before last year, I had never even heard of the airline, but it was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In October, it announced an ambitious expansion of its summer 2026 network, introducing new transatlantic routes, extended southern destinations, and enhanced connectivity across Canada. This week it added another destination to its map and this is one that no other carrier is offering nonstop from Canada or the United States.
A new nonstop route connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with Tirana International Airport (TIA). The service will operate 1x weekly beginning June 18th using an Airbus A330. The addition marks the first time Air Transat will serve Albania. The Albanian Times reported last year that Delta Air Lines was in talks about adding a nonstop route, but I have not seen anything further about that addition.
Sebastian Ponce, Transat’s Chief Revenue Officer, said:
Albania is fast becoming a standout destination on the European travel map, and we are proud to be the first airline to serve it directly from North America. With nine new routes, the annualization of several services and increased frequencies on our flagship routes, our Summer 2026 program is the most extensive we have ever offered. It is part of a network strategy designed to maximize fleet utilization, support steady and profitable growth, and diversify our revenue streams, all the while giving our travelers more choice, flexibility and access to inspiring new destinations.”
Anthony’s Take: I’ve never been to Tirana, but did have fun exploring Sarandë and the surrounding area in Albania. It’s cool to see a nonstop option between North America and the Balkan nation.
