I’ve written several times about Air Transat. Before last year, I had never heard of the airline, but it was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2023 and 2024. It has been making news with some interesting route additions like Tulum, Mexico and Marrakesh, Morocco (its first African destination). Today, it announced its adding flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in summer 2025.
The new flights will run 2x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays from June 19th through October 24th.
Air Transat translates to “deck chair” in French and is a leisure airline with its base largely in Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). Much of its historical flying was from Canada to sunny destinations in the United States and Mexico, but recently it has started to add more and more European cities to its map. The newest route brings the total offered by Air Transat to 36 globally.
Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer of Transat, said:
This new route aligns with our revenue diversification strategy by targeting an important yet underserved market. It also leverages our A321LR aircraft, enabling us to offer a high-quality inflight experience, as well as our joint venture with Porter, which connects the German capital to several major Canadian cities.”
Air Transat will serve 36 destinations in Europe and North Africa from Montreal, Toronto, and Quebec City. An ongoing partnership with Porter Airlines will help with connections and to fill planes from around twenty Canadian cities.
Anthony’s Take: Berlin is a great city filled with history and also a sense of always looking forward. It’s a place for avant garde art and culture. Air Transat will make it easier for Canadians to get there nonstop next summer.
