I’ve written several times about Air Transat. Before last year, I had never even heard of the airline, but it was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Yesterday, it announced that it will be adding nonstop flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Istanbul Airport (IST). Istanbul hosts Europe’s second busiest airport thanks to Turkish Airlines megahub there. Air Transat and Turkish Airlines signed an interline partnership to strengthen air service between Canada and Türkiye with connections across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
Citizens of Canada and the United States can enter Turkey visa-free. The new route will run 2x weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting on December 4th. This new route strengthens Air Transat’s presence in Toronto and offers seamless connections through its joint venture with Porter Airlines from Western Canada, Ottawa, Montreal, and the Maritimes.
Tickets for the new route will go on sale within the next few days. Last month, Air Transat announced a new route between Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and Guadalajara International Airport (GDL). It will begin on December 13th. The airline also shared that it’s extending flights to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) through the winter with a start again in February versus the summer.
Anthony’s Take: Air Transat gets some good reviews and is giving Canadians more options to get to Europe and beyond. I want to try the airline some day as the pricing looks pretty decent.
