Air New Zealand announced a major upgrade to its flagship international lounge at Auckland International Airport (AKL) today. The new lounge is set to nearly double the size of the existing one and become the most spacious in the airline’s network. The new design features two separate lounge areas with 70% more seating capacity.
The expanded lounge space will grow from around 21,500 square feet to nearly 40,000 square feet. It will be divided into two distinct areas:
- One dedicated to Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers
- Another for Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver, and Koru members
The Airpoints Elite and Business Premier section will be on the left side while other guests will head to the right.
Highlights of the upgraded lounge experience will include:
- Improved business zones with private rooms and single-seat booths
- Modern, comfortable furnishings
- A dedicated family area
- A relocated barista bar near the entrance
- Elevated food and beverage offerings
- Expansive runway views in the premium lounge
Air New Zealand says that passengers will be kept up to date throughout the upgrade process via the Air NZ app and signage at the airport. Temporary lounge arrangements will be made for eligible travelers during construction. More design details and exact construction dates are expected to be released later this year.
Air New Zealand CEO, Greg Foran, said:
We’ve designed our new lounges around what our customers told us matters most – more space, more seating, and the ability to choose how they spend their time. Across both lounges, total seating capacity will increase by 70 percent, providing a significant boost in comfort and capacity for international travelers passing through Auckland.
We know our customers value having spaces that are suited to their travel needs, whether that be a quiet business area that allows focus, room for families to play before jumping onboard a flight or a social space to enjoy a coffee before departure.”
Anthony’s Take: The new lounge space looks gorgeous and will provide even more passengers with a space to relax and work before their flights.
