Tata Group is India’s largest conglomerate. It has products and services in over 150 countries and owns two airlines: Air India and Vistara. The plan has been for Vistara to fade and merge into Air India. There was not a firm timeline, but today a date has been announced. Vistara will operate its final flight on November 11th.
We are merging with Air India for you to fly #ToLimitlessPossibilities! Vistara flights, starting 3-Sep-24, will progressively not be available for bookings for travel after 11-Nov-24. 12-Nov-24 onwards, you will be required to book with Air India. Stay tuned for further updates. pic.twitter.com/fDX3fOMTc5

Starting on November 12th, all Vistara operations will be folded into Air India. Everything from flight numbers to crews to branding will be updated to reflect the combined brand under the Air India name. Customers will be able to make bookings for flights on flights formerly served by both airlines on Air India’s site at this time.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director at Air India, said:
Cross-functional teams from Air India and Vistara have been working together for many months to make the transition of aircraft, flying crew, ground-based colleagues and, most importantly, our valued customers, into the new Air India as seamless as possible. The joint team looks forward to offering our guests an expanded network, additional flight options, an enhanced frequent flyer program and the best of both antecedent airlines and are grateful for the support of our loyal customers through this next phase of building a world class, world scale, global airline with an Indian heart.”
Vinod Kannan, Chief Executive Officer at Vistara, added:
We are immensely grateful to all our customers for their support and patronage over the last 10 years. As we progress further in our growth journey, we want to emphasize that this merger is about offering them more choice with a larger fleet and a wider network, while elevating the overall travel experience. Vistara and Air India are committed to ensuring that this transition is smooth and hassle-free. We are excited about this new phase in our journey and look forward to welcoming our customers again soon – as Air India.”
Anthony’s Take: Air India has been working to rebrand and improve its reputation. This merger is the next phase of this rebirth. It’s a huge deal to merge two airlines with tons of logistics. Once settled, passengers should have a seamless travel experience.
