Air France currently serves both Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Paris-Orly Airport (ORY). The former being its hub for premium and international flights and the latter serving limited leisure and domestic routes. Now, Air France has announced that it will practically cease operations at Paris-Orly Airport (ORY) in 2026 to consolidate its operations.

The French carrier cites that the rise of videoconferencing, a drop in domestic business travel, and a shift toward rail travel have all had an impact. Domestic routes out of Paris-Orly Airport (ORY) fell by 40% and even as high as 60% for day return trips.

Transavia

The airport will not be completely abandoned as Air France is bound by Public Service Order (PSO) guidelines to operate service from/to Corsica’s Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte Airport (AJA). It also announced that low-cost carrier Transavia would take over some of Air France’s routes including Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE), Marseille Provence Airport (MRS), and Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS).

Employee work groups need to approve this plan. Air France is promising that there will be no job cuts at outstations and that all employees at Paris-Orly Airport (ORY) will be guaranteed employment at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

Anthony’s Take: Paris-Orly Airport (ORY) is much closer to the city and more convenient. I flew into it on TAP Air Portugal a few years ago. It might not be the easiest for passengers looking to quickly get into Paris, but the move makes sense for Air France as domestic flight restrictions tighten.
