Air Canada has announced a new international destinations and increased capacity across Europe, Latin America, and popular sun markets. The update builds on the airline’s recently revealed plans to launch the only nonstop flights from North America to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport (CTS).

A headline addition to the network is new service to Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO). Beginning in early December, Air Canada will operate 3x weekly flights from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and 1x weekly flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to the Ecuadorian capital. The route will be flown using Boeing 787-8 aircraft offering 20 Signature Class (Business Class), 21 Premium Economy, and 214 Economy Class seats.

Winter schedules will also feature earlier start dates and increased frequencies to Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG) and Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). Air Canada is also growing its newly launched Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to/from Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) route, while flights to Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG) will continue to operate with Boeing 787 aircraft.

In Europe, Air Canada will convert its Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) routes to Manchester Airport (MAN) and Copenhagen Airport (CPH) into year-round service starting in October. Both routes will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR. This marks an important milestone as these aircraft become the first narrow-body jets in Air Canada’s fleet to feature Signature Class lie-flat seats.

Western Canada also benefits from the winter network update. From December, Air Canada will introduce nonstop flights from Calgary International Airport (YYC) to Cancún International Airport (CUN) and Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR). Operated by Air Canada Rouge using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the flights will include complimentary beer and wine, Canadian snacks, and free Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members. Cancún International Airport (CUN) will be served 4x per week and Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) will see 3x weekly flights.

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada, said:

With a comprehensive network spanning all six inhabited continents, Air Canada’s expanded winter schedule further cements our hubs as premier global gateways facilitating fast, convenient travel. These exciting new additions and enhancements are a catalyst to facilitating tourism, trade and connectivity, and deliver more compelling opportunities for our customers and Aeroplan Members to travel almost anywhere in the world to, from or via Canada.”

Anthony’s Take: Air Canada is extending many of its routes and continuing to add new destinations. The airline has a huge global network and it seems to just keep getting more comprehensive.
