Air Canada has been tweaking its route map and making changes to its flights across the border to the United States. In summer 2025, the Canadian carrier will stop serving three cities and will also reduce frequencies to several more.
Reductions:
• YYZ-CVG planned 3x daily reverted to 2x daily
• YYZ-SEA, YUL-DTW/MSP 2x -> 1x dailyIncrease:
• YYZ-ORD 4x -> 6x daily

Cities Losing Service
Three cities are on the chopping block. These all had flights to/from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ):
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
- Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL)
- Kansas City International Airport (MCI)
Additionally, Portland International Airport (PDX) will also not resume next summer. Flights between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) are also not returning.
Frequency Changes
In addition to the cuts above, Air Canada is changing the frequency on several routes. These include:
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to/from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) (increases from 4x to 6x daily). United Airlines also serves this route.
- Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to/from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) (decreases from 3x to 2x daily)
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to/from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) (decreases from 2x to 1x daily). Delta Air Lines also flies this route nonstop multiple times daily.
- Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to/from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) (decreases from 2x to 1x daily). Delta Air Lines also flies this route nonstop multiple times daily.
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to/from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) (decreases from 2x to 1x daily). Alaska Airlines also flies this route nonstop.
Anthony’s Take: These routes were either underperforming or have too much competition (especially out of the Delta hubs). It will be interesting to see where Air Canada sends these aircraft in the future.
