Air Canada is enhancing its Air+Rail offering by expanding its codeshare agreement with Lufthansa to include Lufthansa Express Rail services at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) operated by Deutsche Bahn. This enables travelers to book seamless air-and-rail itineraries on a single reservation for greater convenience, flexibility, and connectivity across Germany and beyond. Air Canada flies to up to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) up to five times daily and these rail connections make it easier to get to other cities faster.
Passengers can now easily connect to 24 German rail destinations as part of their flight itinerary. The integrated booking option is available directly through the Air Canada website. This agreement complements Air Canada’s existing intermodal interlining partnership with Lufthansa Express Rail and the Deutsche Bahn Rail&Fly product.
This agreement builds on Air Canada’s growing intermodal network, which includes partnerships in seven European countries and in South Korea. Since 2023, Air Canada has offered air-to-rail booking options with these partners:
- Austria: ÖBB
- France: TGV-SNCF Voyageurs
- Germany: Deutsche Bahn
- Italy: Trenitalia
- Spain: Renfe
- South Korea: KORAIL (KTX)
- Switzerland: Swiss Federal Railways
- UK: LNER, Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway, TransPennine Express, and National Express coach services
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer and President of Cargo at Air Canada, said:
Air Canada is very pleased to expand its rail offer in Germany with codeshare on Lufthansa Express Rail, operated by Deutsche Bahn, the Star Alliance’s first intermodal partner. Our intermodal connections provide customers with more travel options and make it easier for them to reach their final destinations. By elevating our partnership to a codeshare, we enhance the travel experience for our customers, enabling them to book through Air Canada for both air and rail travel. Among its many benefits, this makes check-in and connecting seamless, and includes a transfer guarantee, ensuring customer support and rebooking assistance in the event of travel disruptions.”
Anthony’s Take: I love taking trains in Europe. Being able to book a combined itinerary is a great thing and I hope to take advantage of this in the future with Air Canada or Lufthansa.

I dearly wish that Aeroplan would do this as well.
