Aeromexico closed both of its Salones Premier lounges in Terminal 2 at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) back on February 10th. Coincidentally, I was in one of the lounges (review here) a few weeks prior and there were no signs that it was closing for renovations. Lounges being updated is a good thing, but with both closing at the same time and a proposed 11-month timeline, eligible passengers traveling through the airport are going to be without lounge access for quite some time.

Salon Premier Lounges Closed

Matthew at Live and Let’s Fly shared this news earlier today that both Salones Premier lounges are closed until December 2025. Aeromexico says the renovations will “provide you with a renewed space where you can enjoy greater comfort and exclusivity on every journey. Closing both lounges simultaneously allows us to optimize construction efforts and deliver a fully upgraded experience in the shortest possible time.”

With both lounges closed, Aeromexico has nowhere to send premium passengers and those with SkyTeam Elite Plus status. It suggest that eligible passengers look for a lounge with access granted from a co-branded credit card. My guess is that it means the Centurion® Lounge by American Express (my review here). This is less than ideal if you do not carry an American Express card that grants access.

Anthony’s Take: The lounge I visited in January was in good shape. I am curious to see what the new lounges will offer when they open in December. Aeromexico really should have figured out a solution for eligible passengers as 11 months is a long time.
