SkyTeam airline, Aeromexico, will launch flights between Cancún International Airport (CUN) and Miami International Airport (MIA) on December 19th. This new leisure route will go head to head with American Airlines daily flights between the two cities.

Aeromexico will use a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with 16 Business Class, 18 AM Plus, and 150 Economy Class seats for this route. The daily flights will bring some competition as American Airlines flies between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Cancún International Airport (CUN) up to 5x daily.

The airline is adding a fair number of leisure routes to its US flight offerings. I’m looking forward to taking the Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) when I’m back in Florida (more here).

Anthony’s Take: Competition on this route will likely help with price. American has been unchallenged and I’m hoping the demand is there to make Aeromexico want to add more routes.
