Yesterday (September 19th), was not a good day to be flying to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). First, a flight from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) diverted for a medical emergency. Shortly after, a flight from Frankfurt Am Main International Airport (FRA) diverted for a mechanical issue.
United Airlines flight UA509 departed Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) a few moments early, but diverted to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) after a medical emergency was declared onboard.

The Boeing 777-200 continued on to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) a few hours later and arrived almost five hours behind schedule.
The second diversion and eventual cancellation occurred on United Airlines flight UA3941.

The flight departed almost two hours late from Frankfurt Am Main International Airport (FRA), but had to divert to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) due to a lefthand generator failure on the 23-year-old Boeing 767-400ER. Unfortunately, it looks like repairs could not be completed quickly and the flight was cancelled.
Anthony’s Take: Two planes bound for Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) diverted for medical and mechanical reasons. The flight from Rome made it, but the Frankfurt flight was cancelled. Thankfully, both aircraft were able to divert safely with no injuries to crew or passengers.

Those United 767’s are getting pretty old. I flew a JFK-BER on one in July and it looked and felt like a 30 year old plane.

Yes, a UAL flight out of JFK doesn’t exist. No matter the age, as long as a plane is well maintained, it’s still fit for service.
