Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S/A (known commonly as Azul Airlines) is a Brazilian airline headquartered in São Paulo. The airline just added an interesting fifth freedom route (a route where an airline from one country transports passengers between countries other than itself). Starting in December, Azul will fly between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Curaçao International Airport (CUR).
New fifth-freedom flight:
Azul announces a new route from Curaçao (CUR) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Flights begin on December 9 with a 4x weekly A320neo:
• AD8786 Depart CUR 4:55 PM Arrive FLL 7:00 PM
• AD8787 Depart FLL 8:00 AM Arrive CUR 11:55 AM pic.twitter.com/O9ltQKS7Rm— Ishrion Aviation (@IshrionA) August 3, 2024
The flights will be operated 4x weekly on an Airbus A321neo. Azul will offer 30 Economy Xtra and 144 Economy Class seats on these flights. Curaçao is the only one of the three ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) that I have not visited.
Anthony’s Take: Curaçao looks beautiful and this would be an easy hop from Florida when I’m there in the winter. Definitely adding this one to my list.

This sounds like a 7th freedom flight. A fifth freedom flight might be Manaus – Curacao – Fort Lauderdale.
