Back in April, I wrote about Hyatt adding the 27th brand to its portfolio. The brand, Hyatt Studios, marks the company’s entry into upper-midscale lodging in the Americas (competitors like Comfort Inn, Hampton by Hilton, and Holiday Inn fall within this category). Now, it has announced the first two locations.
Hyatt Studios will open in Mobile, AL and Marysville, CA. Both of these represent untapped markets where Hyatt’s brand presence is not yet established. Over 100 letters of interest to build Hyatt Studios hotels were signed in April.
3H Group, Inc. entered into a franchise agreement with Hyatt to build the inaugural Hyatt Studios in Tillman’s Corner, which is just outside of Mobile, AL. The hotel will be located near Mobile Bay’s Gulf Coast and will provide much needed extended-stay lodging in the area. In addition to tourism, the city has a presence in manufacturing, aerospace, and commercial retail. This property is scheduled to open in late 2024.
The second franchise location will be run by Presidio Hotel Development LLC. The 113-room Hyatt Studios hotel debuts in 2025. The location in downtown Marysville, CA is close to North Sacramento. This property will feature a custom buildout with dedicated meeting spaces for business travelers and extended stay amenities that also appeal to those on vacation.
The Hyatt Studios brand will become part of Hyatt’s Timeless collection. Developers will like these hotels because they deliver efficient and scalable prototypes, a lean operating model, and flexible brand and design elements to adapt to local market needs. Hyatt Studios will be sized to fit approximately 122 rooms.
Anthony’s Take: As I said in April, I’m not sure this brand is needed in the portfolio, but I’m always happy to see Hyatt expand its footprint. The renderings look rather blah and nondescript. I’m not a huge fan of Hyatt Place or Hyatt House hotels, but do stay in them when they’re the only option. Hyatt Studios seems to be a bit higher-end than those, so that is a plus.
