As I wrote about last month, crowding at Sky Clubs® has been at an all-time high with lines to enter being commonplace at ATL, JFK, and elsewhere. Along with other changes to the entrance requirements, Delta also banned employees from using the Sky Clubs® as of February 3rd. This includes employees that have purchased memberships and those who hold credit cards that grant them access.
Delta employees are not taking these changes lying down and over 7,100 of them have signed a petition urging the CEO to let them back in.
While Delta is offering current employees and retirees with paid Sky Club® memberships partial refunds, this is not enough as many have used these lounges as a place to relax while commuting to and from work.
Sky Clubs® have been crowded. This is largely because they provide a premium environment with good food and drinks. They are better than what United and American offer and with the partnership with American Express, lots of cardholders frequently use them. The cardholders outnumber the employees using the Sky Clubs® by a wide margin and I’m not sure cutting out employees is going to provide the relief it intends.
Anthony’s Take: I think Delta is in the wrong for eliminating access to employees who have paid or hold a credit card that grants access. We’ll see the impact this has to overcrowding in these lounges in the coming months.

Their petition is kind of self-fulfilling if you think about it. If over 7,000 are invested enough to sign this then how many 10s of 1000s used these clubs? No wonder they had to control the herd in this area.
