United Airlines is expanding its Caribbean network with the launch of a new nonstop route connecting St. Croix’ Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to give travelers a direct link between the US Virgin Island and the New York metropolitan area.

The new service will begin on October 31st and will operate weekly on Saturdays using a Boeing 737-700 aircraft configured with 12 Business Class, 36 EconomyPlus, and 78 Economy seats. With the addition of the route, United becomes the only airline offering nonstop service between St. Croix and the New York City area. This provides a significant boost for both leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives travel demand.

The new flight further strengthens United’s position as the leading carrier between the New York region and the Caribbean. Once launched, the airline will serve 23 Caribbean destinations from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), offering travelers one of the most extensive route networks in the region.

United already operates service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and St. Thomas’ Cyril E. King Airport (STT). The addition of St. Croix gives visitors more options when planning vacations to the US Virgin Islands and creates greater flexibility for travelers interested in exploring multiple islands during a single trip.

Tourism officials have long sought expanded air service to St. Croix, which is known for its historic towns, beaches, diving sites, and growing culinary scene. The nonstop flight is expected to make the island more accessible to travelers from the Northeast while also improving connectivity for residents traveling to and from the mainland.

Anthony’s Take: The route also reflects continued demand for Caribbean travel, which has remained one of the strongest-performing international leisure markets for US airlines in recent years. United keeps growing its route network and it remains the strongest by far of the US carriers.
