American Airlines passengers will soon enjoy a taste of Texas in First Class as the carrier partners with Dallas-based restaurant Pecan Lodge to serve authentic Central Texas-style barbecue on select flights beginning next month.
Founded in 2010, Pecan Lodge has earned national recognition for its traditional smoking techniques and signature brisket. This collaboration marks the first time the restaurant’s barbecue will be served on board an airline. The new menu items will be offered to passengers through pre-order on flights departing from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on flights to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
What’s on the Menu?
- February: Pecan Lodge Barbecue Platter: Smoked brisket and smoked sausage served with mac and cheese, coleslaw, and a side of pickles, onions, and barbecue sauce.
- March: Smoked Chopped Brisket Sandwich: Chopped brisket on a brioche bun accompanied by roasted green beans, potato salad, and a side of pickles, onions, and barbecue sauce.
Pre-orders begin for eligible reservations on January 11th.
The Pecan Lodge partnership builds on American’s broader effort to enhance its premium culinary offerings. Recent collaborations with Champagne Bollinger and Lavazza coffee have added a bit more luxury to the cabin. The airline also began rolling out free Wi-Fi for AAdvantage® members, sponsored by AT&T, as part of its continued investment in the customer experience.
Rhonda Crawford, American’s SVP of Customer Experience Design and Strategy, said:
As we celebrate American’s centennial anniversary in 2026, we’re looking forward to delighting our customers in new ways that honor unique regional tastes, beginning right here in our home state through one of the most beloved barbecue restaurants in Texas. Our customers deserve nothing but the best, and Pecan Lodge is certainly that.”
Anthony’s Take: For barbecue fans and frequent flyers this partnership offers a uniquely Texan way to start a trip to New York. I’m hoping that this expands and that I get to try is as it sounds delicious. More airlines should look to partner with restaurants as these collaborations tend to be popular with passengers (just look at Delta and Shake Shack).
