As I wrote about in September, Lufthansa is preparing to celebrate a major milestone in 2026: the 100th anniversary of the original airline founded in 1926. To honor a century of aviation heritage, the German carrier is introducing a dedicated anniversary fleet featuring a striking design that blends the airline’s historic identity with a modern aesthetic.
Several of Lufthansa’s most important aircraft types will receive a special 100-year livery. The design features a deep blue fuselage accented by a white crane whose wings seamlessly merge into the aircraft’s own wings. A stylized 100 will appear on the left side of the fuselage, while the right side will display the inscription 1926 / 2026. Another 100 will be painted on the belly of the aircraft (making it visible from below during takeoff and landing).
This visual identity pays tribute to Lufthansa’s legacy while underscoring its ongoing commitment to innovation and renewal. The new Boeing 787-9 named “Berlin” is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt in December. Other aircraft set to receive the livery include an Airbus A380, an Airbus A350-1000, an Airbus A350-900, an Airbus A320, and a Boeing 747-8. These aircraft represent the backbone of Lufthansa’s long-haul and short-haul operations.
Painting and rollout will take place gradually with the full anniversary fleet expected to be completed by fall 2026. As each aircraft enters service, passengers and aviation enthusiasts will see the commemorative livery take to the skies to mark a century of Lufthansa’s presence in international aviation.
Anthony’s Take: The anniversary fleet serves as both a celebration of Lufthansa’s history and a forward-looking gesture as the airline prepares for its next century of flight. I love custom liveries and these look so cool.
