MGM Grand Unveils $300 Million Room Transformation Inspired by Disco-Era Glamour

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino just completed a $300 million transformation of its main tower. The project delivers 3,969 newly redesigned rooms and suites that bring together luxury with the bold, energetic spirit of the disco era to reinforce the resort’s identity as one of Las Vegas’ enduring entertainment landmarks.

The refresh was envisioned by global design firm Gensler in collaboration with MGM Resorts Design & Development. Their work reimagines MGM Grand’s guest experience around modern comfort, efficiency, and style. Rooms now feature spa-inspired bathrooms with walk-in glass showers and bright porcelain finishes, integrated illuminated closets, enhanced blackout drapery, and wall-mounted Smart TVs. Minibars have been upgraded to include dedicated guest-use refrigerators, which better cater to today’s traveler expectations (this is a great move).

The design includes playful retro influences through bold artwork, patterns, and color accents that capture the glamour of the disco era. MGM King rooms showcase walnut tones and vibrant carpeting, while MGM Two Queen rooms feature soft gray stone, vertically placed sconces, and tailored headboards. Guests will find expanded connectivity at bedside charging hubs equipped with USB, USB-C, and traditional outlets. Custom artwork, including LED elements, is throughout the tower to reinforce the refreshed visual identity.

MGM Grand has also expanded its suite inventory with an additional 111 redesigned accommodations for a total of 753. Ranging from 675 to 1,784 square feet, the suites feature brighter palettes, open floor plans, and improved layouts that enhance privacy while supporting both work and relaxation. Suite bathrooms were also reimagined with double mirrors, quartz benches, and upgraded showers to elevate the overall experience.

The room transformation coincides with the rollout of several new entertainment and dining concepts across the resort. Recent debuts include NETFLIX BITES, Palm Tree Beach Club (a tropical day club created in partnership with Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew), and The FRIENDS Experience (a fully interactive attraction that brings the world of the classic sitcom to life). MGM Grand has also launched FREQNCY (an immersive, high-energy residency from the renowned Jabbawockeez dance crew). Meanwhile, Morimoto, the resort’s signature contemporary Japanese restaurant, is undergoing its own major design and menu refresh, which will be unveiled later this month.

Anthony’s Take: The MGM Grand was in need of a refresh and this one looks great. I can’t wait to check out the upgrades to the largest single building hotel in the United States (a title the property holds) in the near future.
