Lufthansa Airlines has revealed a cool new livery to commemorate its upcoming 100th anniversary next year. The celebratory design will debut on a brand-new Boeing 787-9 and serves as a flying symbol of Lufthansa’s legacy and future.
The new livery showcases Lufthansa’s iconic crane, a design originally created in 1918 by Otto Firle, who was both a graphic designer and architect. Over the decades, the crane has become one of the most recognizable airline logos worldwide and represents Lufthansa’s values of reliability, precision, and innovation.
For this centennial edition, the fuselage has been painted in deep blue with a white crane whose wings seamlessly blend into the aircraft’s wings to create the impression that the plane itself becomes part of the crane in flight. This design represents movement, elegance, and a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Additional celebratory elements include:
- The numerals 100 integrated on the left side of the fuselage.
- The inscription 1926/2026 displayed on the right side, symbolizing Lufthansa’s journey across a century.
- A large 100 logo painted on the underside of the aircraft, making it visible to spectators on the ground.
The Boeing 787-9, registered D-ABPU, received its special livery in Charleston, South Carolina (where Boeing’s Dreamliner production facility is located). In November, Lufthansa will take delivery of the aircraft in Frankfurt, Germany (complete with the new Allegris interior). In December, the aircraft will officially enter regular service and fly to destinations across Lufthansa’s global network as a “flying ambassador” for the anniversary celebrations.
