JetBlue hosted its 11th annual “Fly Like a Girl” event at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on September 20th. This initiative is designed to empower the next generation of aviators and introduce young girls to careers in aviation.

The inspiring event, held inside JetBlue’s Orlando hangar, brought together more than 150 local youth ages eight to 14 for a hands-on, educational experience that showcases the exciting opportunities available across the aviation industry. With a strong presence in Florida and more than 25 years of service to the Orlando community, JetBlue has deep roots in the region.

The Women in Flight Crewmember Resource Group (CRG), JetBlue’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Impact team, and the JetBlue Foundation came together to create a memorable day filled with interactive activities, mentorship opportunities, and behind-the-scenes tours. Participants engaged in interactive learning stations and live demonstrations while being guided by JetBlue crewmembers representing every area of the airline.

Event highlights included a guided Airbus A320 tour with a close-up look at the flight deck, cabin, and technical systems, ground operations demonstrations (including baggage handling and cargo logistics), mentorship sessions with pilots, inflight crewmembers, and technical operators, and STEM-focused activities designed to spark curiosity in the aviation and aerospace fields.

The event comes shortly after JetBlue’s announcement of a major investment and growth initiative in Florida, including:

  • Nine new nonstop routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • Additional daily flights on select existing routes to enhance connectivity across the state
  • JetBlue’s first intermodal agreement with Brightline

These developments underscore JetBlue’s role as a key player in Florida’s travel infrastructure and its commitment to expanding options for both leisure and business travelers.

Ursula Hurley, President of the JetBlue Foundation and JetBlue’s Chief Financial Officer, said:

Orlando is the heart of JetBlue’s training and innovation, and we’re proud to call it home to JetBlue University, where every crewmember—from pilots to frontline teams—receives the world-class training that shapes our award-winning service. Bringing Fly Like a Girl to Orlando reflects our deep commitment to this community and to inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals right here in Central Florida. For over a decade, the JetBlue Foundation has been proud to support initiatives that promote STEM and build meaningful career pathways in aviation.”

Icema Gibbs, JetBlue’s Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Impact, added:

At JetBlue, inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals means going beyond conversation—it’s about creating real, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and open doors. Fly Like a Girl is a one-of-a-kind event that allows students to engage directly with our crewmembers, explore the wide range of careers aviation has to offer, and begin to envision their own future in the industry. Hosting Fly Like a Girl in Orlando not only makes sense—it’s personal. This community helps power JetBlue, and we’re proud to invest in its future.”

Anthony’s Take: Events like this make a difference in inspiring the next generation of pilots, mechanics, and other aviation-related careers. Kudos to JetBlue for hosting this one.
