Hyatt acquired The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels brands last year. The purchase added 21 properties to Hyatt’s portfolio. Bunkhouse Hotels are quirky, unique properties in the United States and Mexico. The World of Hyatt® loyalty program is welcoming these properties and allowing members to earn and redeem points as well as receive benefits for holding elite status. Seven of the 11 properties have officially joined with the four remaining coming in the future. Now, Bunkhouse Hotels is announcing a new addition with the Hotel Daphne in Houston Heights. It’s set to open this January.
The 49-room boutique property will be located in the heart of the historic Houston Heights. With its thoughtfully curated design, all-day dining, and vibrant social spaces, Hotel Daphne aims to become a neighborhood gathering spot as well as a stylish base for visitors exploring the city. Hotel Daphne will feature a range of amenities that extend beyond the guest rooms. These include:
- Hypsi, a full-service restaurant and lounge
- A ground-floor bar and library
- Private event space for celebrations and gatherings
- A courtyard that’s perfect for outdoor dining or relaxation
- A signature lobby retail shop that offers unique local finds
The property will open in phases, starting with the debut of Hypsi in November 2025 and overnight accommodations in January.
Hotel Daphne’s design, led by Bunkhouse Hotels’ in-house team, draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts architectural style that characterizes Houston Heights. The interiors will feature:
- Custom furniture and vintage décor
- Bold, psychedelic prints and opulent textiles
- A lush courtyard and indoor fireplace framed by an antique mantel
- A vibrant bar area with leather Cassina chairs, reminiscent of historic supper clubs
In contrast to Bunkhouse’s Hotel Saint Augustine, which purposely avoided traditional wall art due to its proximity to the Menil Collection, Hotel Daphne will embrace an art-forward concept. The property will feature custom works by Austin- and Los Angeles-based artist Alexandra Valenti, alongside original pieces from the private collections of hotel owners Bob and Ben Ackerley.
The five-story painted brick building, with its stepped parapets and steel windows, blends seamlessly into the neighborhood’s character. The architecture is a collaboration between Blanchard A+D (Massachusetts) and Darwin Architecture (California), with landscape architecture by Houston-based McDugald Steele.
To celebrate its first guests, Bunkhouse Hotels has launched a “First Nights in the Heights” promotion. Guests who book using the code “FIRST” will receive:
- 20% off the standard rate
- A complimentary room upgrade (subject to availability)
- Late checkout at 2:00 PM (subject to availability)
Terms and conditions apply and can be found here.
Omar Abreu, Regional General Manager, Hotel Saint Augustine + Hotel Daphne, said:
We are thrilled to soon welcome guests to Hotel Daphne, creating a new gathering place in the heart of the Heights. This neighborhood has such a rich history and creative energy, and our team is excited to once again bring that authentic Bunkhouse Hotels experience to Houston.”
Anthony’s Take: I’m excited to check out some of the Bunkhouse Hotels’ properties. I love the unique designs and quirkiness.
