American Airlines added two routes to the map with destinations in Florida and California just in time for the winter. The carrier will offer service to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) starting in December.
Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) has been getting some love recently. Delta Air Lines will begin flying between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) on November 8th. United Airlines currently offers flights to/from Palm Springs International Airports (PSP) and four of its hubs: Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Denver International Airport (DEN), Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). On December 18th, it will bring back nonstop service to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). It has been more than five years since United last offered this route. After Avelo Airlines left California, it dropped its Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) to/from Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS). Alaska will pick this up 5x weekly starting on October 26th. Now, American Airlines will offer flights to/from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) 1x weekly starting on December 20th.
American will also bring flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) to passengers this winter with daily flights commencing on December 20th. This is a crowded route with Delta offering up to 4x daily flights, JetBlue (up to 7x daily), Frontier Airlines (daily), and Spirit Airlines (up to 2x daily).
Anthony’s Take: American is working to fill in the gaps in its route network and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a pretty basic one to offer if the carrier wants to make its presence felt in Beantown.
