Alaska Airlines found a winner in its Signature Fruit & Cheese Platter. The snack makes up 40% of all fresh food sales and is now available for pre-order on even more flights. Starting today, short-haul routes between 670 and 774 miles will have this option for guests to choose in advance of their flights in the Main Cabin.

Since 2010, the signature dish has been a hit. It features five pieces of Washington– and Oregon-made cheese, including a wedge of brie, two slices of Tillamook’s Sharp Cheddar, and two slices of Beecher’s Flagship Handmade Cheese. It also includes five large crackers, up to four apple slices, and a handful of green/purple grapes along with a chocolate truffle by Maeve (a local Pacific Northwest-based chocolatier). Today is apparently National Cheese Day, so this is a great way to celebrate.

In addition to the Signature Fruit & Cheese Platter, Alaska is adding the Jetsetter’s Jam: smooth cashew butter and tart strawberry jam on flaky croissant bread and served with fresh fruit and a slice of Tillamook cheddar cheese.

Mark Krolick, Managing Director of Inflight Guest Products at Alaska Airlines, said:

For over a decade, our Signature Fruit & Cheese Platter has been the most requested and beloved offering on board. We’re thrilled to continue delivering what our guests love and what Alaska is known for. No matter the destination, we want every guest to enjoy a taste of home and hospitality that makes their journey memorable.”

Alaska Chefs

Alaska has recently focused a lot of attention on the menus for its premium cabins. It recently announced a new Chef’s (tray) Table dining concept. This will showcase West Coast chefs on board Alaska flights. It builds off of the partnership that Alaska launched last year with San Francisco’s Chef Brandon Jew. It’s good to see that the airline is also focusing on its Main Cabin (where most passengers fly).

Anthony’s Take: A fruit and cheese plate is a great choice in flight and one that I frequently opt for when traveling. I like the sound of the sandwich as well. Kudos to Alaska for not neglecting the passengers in the back of the plane.
