Last week, I spent the night in Dallas on business and needed something near the restaurant where I was hosting dinner. The Hyatt Regency Dallas had a decent rate (especially compared to many other similar hotels that night), held good reviews, and was in a location that worked for me. This is the downtown hotel and not to be confused with the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport (review here) where I stayed in March.
Anthony’s Take: The Hyatt Regency Dallas offers friendly service, clean and comfortable accommodations, good elite treatment, and all of the amenities you’ll need. I would return if I was in the area and needed a nearby hotel. The hotel does not have a lounge, but the breakfast offered more than makes up for it.
Booking
I booked a 1 King Bed Airport View room on a “Member Rate.” It was $359 plus taxes and fees per night. The hotel falls under Category 3 with award rates for standard rooms ranging from 9,000 to 15,000 World of Hyatt® points.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I took an Uber Comfort from Terminal E in Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to the hotel for around $58. It took around 18 minutes for the 19-mile ride. The return trip the next morning cost around the same amount.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Dallas is located near the downtown historic district where you’ll find lots of tourist attractions, restaurants, and shopping. It’s also only a few minutes drive to the convention center.
The lobby is open and spacious. There is a good amount of seating and it opens into an atrium where the elevators take guests up to their rooms (all rooms are along this atrium with views down to the lobby. This is an old style for larger hotels and one that is slowly fading from many properties. I always feel a bit nostalgic when I think back on the history of properties like this one. It opened in 1978 and has seen countless guests and events since then. Also, being in Dallas made me think of the TV drama of the same name.
Escalators take you to the restaurants and some conference spaces.
As mentioned, the atrium is wide open and provides lots of light.
Check-In
When entering from the valet, you’ll see the check-in desk to the left. I arrived at the hotel around 5:30 PM and my suite was ready. The check-in agent informed me that I had been upgraded to a Studio Suite. He also explained that breakfast was in the restaurant, asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not), and printed my keys. I was on my way to the suite moments later.
Elevators for both towers are near the entrance. I was assigned a suite in the Atrium Tower.
Elevators worked well and had an open/glass side facing the atrium.
The elevator lobby and hallways were clean and in good repair. I found the layout a bit confusing and went the wrong way more than once.
Studio Suite (1218)
There are 1,120 rooms and suites at the hotel.
The suite opened with a small desk straight inside the doorway. It held a coffeemaker, coffee, tea, condiments, cups, bottled water, and an ice bucket.
A full-length mirror was next to the desk.
The closet was across from the desk. It held a safe, iron, ironing board, luggage rack, as well as an extra pillow and blanket.
The bathroom was nearby. It offered a vanity with a single sink, a toilet, and a glassed-in shower.
A bar of Pharmacopia brand soap was next to the sink.
A large bottle of body lotion was nearby.
The toilet was pretty tightly placed between the vanity and shower.
The shower was a good size and offered good water pressure and temperature.
Bottles of Pharmacopia brand shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the shower wall.
The Studio Suite was one big room with a bedroom and living area. The bedroom held a king-sized bed with two nightstands.
A TV was mounted across from the bed.
The living area was on the other side of the room.
Another TV was mounted here.
I liked the giant window seat here.
A refrigerator was on the side near the window seat. It was empty for guest use.
The view overlooked the highway.
Breakfast
A breakfast buffet was provided to Globalists at Centennial restaurant on the second floor. It was a nice buffet with a good selection and a made-to-order omelette station. This buffet normally costs $23 per person.
The restaurant overlooks the atrium.
The buffet had lots of hot items, baked goods, cereal, fruit, yogurt, and more.
Scrambled Eggs
Biscuits
Gravy
Chicken Sausage
Pork Sausage
Bacon
Breakfast Potatoes
Veggie Frittata
Oatmeal
French Toast
Baked goods
Made-to-order omelettes were available
Public Areas & Amenities
The hotel has a fitness center (pictured above), four restaurants, a mini market, a pool, an ATM, a FedEx store, a drugstore vending machine, as well as multiple conference spaces and ballrooms totaling 160,000 square feet. I was in and out of the hotel so quickly that I did not have the chance to checkout the pool or fitness center.
The FedEx store is great to have on hand.
The drugstore vending machine was near reception.
A market and coffee shop were also in the lobby.
Parrino’s Oven is located next to Centennial.
An ATM was also in the lobby.
Overall Impression:
I had a good stay at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. I found the staff to be really friendly and the suite was comfortable. I enjoyed breakfast with a colleague and would return to the hotel if the need arose in the future.

Wife and I stayed there just before Xmas. As the hotel was empty we had an excellent rate . The staff were super friendly and the overall experience was very good . I agree with your rating
