Delta Air Lines is celebrating its 100th anniversary and while it is looking back, it’s also moving forward. Yesterday, it announced that it was releasing the latest version of its Fly Delta App. This is version 7.0 and it includes real-time flight updates, personalized notifications, seamless travel documentation support, and more. Passengers will be able to do more with the app and hopefully have a smooth travel experience when flying the Atlanta-based carrier.

Delta Upgrades

More Control of SkyMiles® Benefits

Delta is making it easier for Platinum and Diamond Medallion Members to use their upgrade certificates. Those eligible can now see when an upgrade is available and redeem a certificate during checkout directly from the app. This is the same functionality that is currently available on Delta.com (this feature was added online back in December 2022).

Beginning June 1st, Choice Benefit selection will be exclusively available through the app. Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members will be able to make their selections on the fly. SkyMiles® accounts can also be linked to partners like Uber within the app (this partnership launched last month).

Delta Flight Updates

Real-Time Flight Updates

United Airlines has the best app in the industry and one area where it shines is flight updates. Delta Air Lines hopes to challenge this with its latest release. All Fly Delta users with version 7.0 of the app will see a new feature that allows them to see real-time flight updates on the lock screen and dynamic island (iPhone 14 Pro and later models only).

Other updates around travel disruptions, delays, and more will be provided within three hours of departure.

More Features Coming Soon

In future updates, Delta will add more support for international trips with alerts for missing documentation and tasks that need to be completed prior to travel (by destination). More self-serve rebooking tools will also be added so that passengers can handle more of their travel planning and changes without an agent.

Eric Phillips, SVP and Chief Digital Officer at Delta Air Lines, said:

By knowing where our Members are headed, how they interact with us, and what they value most, we’re able to offer choices and experiences that truly matter to them. We’re continuously improving the Fly Delta app to make it the ultimate travel companion, enhancing every step of the customer journey to ensure seamless and connected travel with Delta. As we announced at CES 2025, the next step in this journey will be leveraging Delta-centric AI – Delta Concierge—for an elevated human touch to supercharge the customer experience, beginning later this year.”

Anthony’s Take: I am often critical of United Airlines, but its app is one of the best things that it offers. I can do everything with it. Delta is making headway and a clear second when it comes to app ease of use and features. It’s great to see this getting even better with the gap quickly closing between these two airline apps.
