Air China announced today that it’s planning to move to the upcoming Terminal One at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when it opens in 2026. With its operations being housed there, the Star Alliance carrier will share space with fellow Star Alliance members Air New Zealand, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, and Turkish Airlines (more here). Turkish Airlines is opening a lounge here and it looks like Air China premium passengers and Star Alliance Gold members will have access.
Air China flies 5x weekly to/from Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) using Boeing 747-8 aircraft. The New Terminal One will include expansive departures and arrivals halls as well as the first 14 widebody aircraft gates. The entire 2.6 million-square-foot terminal will have 23 gates in total. This a huge part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of the airport, which includes two new terminals along with the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new roadway network. It will also feature a selection of retail that being compared to Fifth Avenue and New York City’s iconic markets.
Peng Lei, Air China’s General Manager for North America, said:
We’re thrilled to call the New Terminal One at JFK Airport our home, reaffirming our commitment to provide our guests with the best of both worlds and connecting two of the world’s most vibrant, cosmopolitan cities. From the moment travelers step aboard our flight, we welcome them into a world where they can experience China’s rich tapestry of centuries-old culture and history, our tradition of warm welcoming hospitality, and market-leading innovations.”
Jennifer Aument, CEO, The New Terminal One at JFK, added:
We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Air China through this important step forward with the New Terminal One. Their collaboration has been invaluable in shaping an extraordinary guest experience and we look forward to a lasting partnership that supports Air China’s growth in the New York market.”
Anthony’s Take: The renderings of Terminal One look gorgeous. It will house many international airlines and is finally the global gateway that New York City deserves.
