Hong Kong Airlines struggled during the pandemic and has been slow to recover since it ended. Today, the airline announced that it is making big changes to everything from its onboard meals to baggage allowances and its lounge experience in a program that it’s calling “we serve with heart.”
Updated Dining
Hong Kong Airlines is undergoing a comprehensive dining overhaul that will serve both its “Taste of Hong Kong” and regionally inspired dishes across both the Business Class and Economy Class cabins. Business Class passengers will be offered a choice of three signature Cantonese dishes. These have been created in collaboration with Michelin restaurant Ming Court, along with a selection of Chinese, Western, and vegetarian menus that will be updated seasonally for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and light snacks.
Passengers who purchase the front-row seats in Economy Class on select routes will enjoy more legroom and priority boarding/deplaning, but also an upgraded meal service.
Upgraded VIP Lounge Experience
Hong Kong Airlines has upgraded its Club Autus lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). This marks the beginning of a strategic alliance with Plaza Premium Group to deliver a lounge experience that combines international standards with authentic Hong Kong culture.
Hong Kong Airlines offers lounge access for Business Class passengers, Platinum and Gold members of its Fortune Wings Club loyalty program, members of the Enjoyment Program in Economy Class, and other eligible travelers including invited intercontinental transit passengers on Hong Kong Airlines-operated flights and qualified corporate clients.
Lounge guests can expect freshly prepared local delicacies like Egg Waffles in Original Flavor, Wonton Noodles, and Shredded Chicken Noodle Soup with Pickled Vegetables.
The cocktails are also getting an upgrade. Champion bartender, Leo Ko, has created an exclusive collection of welcome drinks such as the Victoria Fizz, Oriental Iced Tea, Summer.com, and Southern Beauty.
Club Autus lounge will also bring back massage chairs and a business center.
Enhanced Online Check-in Seat Selection Service
Starting May 2nd, Hong Kong Airlines’ passengers will see expanded complimentary seat selection options during online check-in. Additionally, children under 12 traveling with adults can now secure seats together at no charge.
Baggage Policy Redefined
Hong Kong Airlines has a new baggage policy that will be implemented for flights departing on or after May 7th. Changes include:
- Economy Class: Increased checked baggage allowance starting around 50 pounds (one piece), plus around 15 pounds of cabin baggage (one piece)
- Business Class: Significantly higher baggage allowance of around 141 pounds (two pieces, around 70 pounds each), plus an increased cabin baggage allowance of around 33 pounds (two pieces in total)
Yan Bo, Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines, said:
At Hong Kong Airlines, our commitment to ‘Serve with Heart’ represents a pivotal step in our mission to redefine full-service travel through authentic Hong Kong hospitality. By infusing local cultural elements into every journey touchpoint – from Michelin Cantonese cuisine to beloved local street food – we are transforming our city’s unique charm into a globally recognized signature.
The whole service upgrade program synergizes perfectly with our network expansion, including key long-haul routes to Vancouver and Sydney, propelling our transition from a regional hub carrier to a global full-service airline. Supported by the three-runway system’s increased capacity and our global lounge partnership with Plaza Premium Group, we are strengthening our role as an aviation bridge that connects China with the world while delivering exceptional point-to-point and transit flight experiences.”
Anthony’s Take: It’s great to see Hong Kong Airlines getting its footing back and improving the passenger experience on the ground and across cabins in flight.
