A passenger on an American Airlines flight took to X to post pictures of what she encountered while settling into her seat. The seatbelt was clearly broken, but held together with tape to make it usable. This doesn’t seem to go along with American’s recently announced push to be more premium.

The poster also pointed out that the lavatory was filthy with the garbage can overflowing after only flying for 90 minutes. This is hardly unique to American as recent flights that I have flown with both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines had plenty of inoperable monitors, Wi-Fi not working, broken overhead bins, and more.
Aircraft maintenance is often deferred on these minor issues as the planes need to be kept in the air. The examples I cited are minor, but I would not have felt too comfortable using this taped-together seat belt.
Anthony’s Take: This seat should have been taken out of service. In the event of an emergency, I’m not sure it would have worked as it was intended. Not good, American.
