American Airlines is running a promotion during the month of March where targeted AAdvantage® members (everyone seems to be targeted) can get a head start on qualifying or requalifying for status. After registering, members can earn 500 Loyalty Points for each American Airlines flight during the month of March (up to 5,000 Loyalty Points total).

AA Promo 1

The offer can be found in the “Promotions” section of your American AAdvantage® account. If you’re targeted, you should see the tile above.

AA Promo 2

Once clicked, it will expand to give you all of the details. Travel must be completed by March 31st.

American AAdvantage Elite Status

American requires 40,000 Loyalty Points for its entry-level, Gold status. I look at this promo as something to loosely compete with what United offers all Premier members and what certain Delta credit card holders can receive as a head start each year. The biggest difference is that you need to fly to earn this bonus.

Anthony’s Take: American is smart to look to drum up some additional flights at the start of its program year (Yes, American AAdvantage® now begins its qualifying year on March 1st). If you’re planning to book flights or if there is a possibility you might, register for this promo.
