I live half of the year in Chicago and am not a fan of the city’s pizza style. To me, it’s a tomato and corn meal casserole and it’s too heavy to enjoy. Give me New York or Neapolitan pizza any day and I’ll be happy. Pizza is one of the last things that I ever thought I’d choose to dine on while in flight, but I had to taste it in order to report back on what Delta is dishing up.

Delta Meal Selection

I preordered the Pepperoni Pizza as it is not offered without selecting it in advance.

The Pepperoni Pizza is served with a fresh side salad and Delta’s delicious Flourless Chocolate Cake with Cherry Compote. The pizza itself was surprisingly tasty. Would I order it at home? No. But, it did have a slightly charred crust and the chew you’d expect from your local pizzeria. The tomato sauce and toppings were good and I enjoyed the pizza, overall. (I apologize for the photo quality, but the overhead reading lights were inoperable.)

While this isn’t something the Julia Roberts would have craved in Eat, Pray, Love, it was a nice departure from the usual ravioli or short ribs served in flight. If you want to read more about Pizza at L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, my thoughts are found here.

Anthony’s Take: I’d order this pizza again in the future and I’d take it over Chicago style any day. If you have the option to try this one, order in advance for something different in the air.

Looks sad for a pizza I wouldn’t classify that as pizza

Very timely review… thank you for this! I have it as an option on my flight Saturday. This morning had a breakfast flight and there is a breakfast pizza version but I wasn’t brave enough to try it. I don’t think anybody on my flight did. I had the mushroom quiche (which came out like a soupy mess… the ham and onion one seems to do better).
