I’m a huge Starbucks fanatic and find myself in one of the coffee giant’s locations just about anywhere I am in the world. I recently wrote about changes to the partnership with Delta Air Lines (more here). Now, Marriott and Starbucks have announced their own collaboration for members of both rewards programs to earn bonus points and stars.
While this does not seem like the most lucrative promotion, I’ll always take bonuses for purchases that I would be making anyway. Here are the earning opportunities:
- Marriott Bonvoy® Weeks | Sip, Dream, GoTM: Earn 100 bonus Marriott points (during designated weeks) for making three qualifying purchases at Starbucks. The first eligible week will be July 8th to 14th.
- Double Stars During Stays: Earn double Starbucks Stars when making purchases at Starbucks during eligible Marriott stays
- Exclusive Experiences: Full details have not been released, but there will be special Marriott Bonvoy Moments auctions later this year. The pair are also running a sweepstakes from today through July 7th. Prizes include a grand prize trip to visit each of the Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Seattle, Milan, and Tokyo (hotel and round-trip airfare included). Other prizes include trips to Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in either Seattle, Milan, or Tokyo (hotel and round-trip airfare included), as well as 500 chances to win hundreds of Bonus Stars from Starbucks. (More details here.)
Starbucks Reserve locations in Seattle, Chicago, and New York are introducing a cocktail called the Starbucks Reserve Siciliano for Marriott Bonvoy® to celebrate the launch. It blends Starbucks Reserve Cold Brew with traditional Italian spirits, including Amaro Averna and Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth and it’s finished with Scrappy’s Orange Bitters, sparkling water, and an orange slice. For a limited time, it will be exclusively available to Starbucks Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy® members with linked accounts at U.S. Starbucks Reserve® Roasteries and the Starbucks Reserve Store at Empire State Building®.
The good news is that you don’t have to choose between this and other brands partnering with Starbucks. You can earn with Delta, Marriott, and Bank of America (it has a cashback program ongoing).
To participate, you must be a member of both programs and link your accounts here.
It’s an easy process and my accounts were linked within seconds.
David Flueck, Global Head of Loyalty, Cards & Enterprise Partnerships at Marriott International, said:
I love my regular morning cup of Starbucks coffee, and find I enjoy it even more when traveling. So, Marriott Bonvoy’s collaboration with Starbucks makes perfect sense. We will truly satisfy our members’ passions for coffee and travel with the opportunity to earn more points and Stars while traveling and at home, and later this year by bringing those passions together when we introduce exclusive coffee- and travel-themed experiences on Marriott Bonvoy® Moments.”
Anthony’s Take: It will be interesting to see what else Marriott and Starbucks build out for members. You can earn some bonus points and stars here, but it’s not as lucrative as the Delta partnership.
