Nestled in the turquoise waters of the Bahamas, the Exuma archipelago is a hidden gem that offers pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and a taste of true Caribbean paradise. With its breathtaking natural beauty and a myriad of exciting activities, Exuma offers a wealth of unforgettable experiences.

Here are five things you can’t miss on your visit.

Bahamas Fish

5. Try Some Bahamian Cuisine

No visit to Exuma is complete without savoring the flavors of Bahamian cuisine. From fresh seafood dishes like conch salad and cracked lobster to traditional Bahamian stews and delicious tropical fruits, Exuma offers a culinary journey. Visit local restaurants and beachside shacks to sample the authentic flavors of the island.

Can’t Miss: Head to Shirley’s Seafood Restaurant for authentic and delicious meals. The Grouper is oustanding.

Address: Shirley’s Seafood Restaurant | G679+P3C, Queen’s Highway, Bahamas

Cocoplum Beach

4. Relax at Cocoplum Beach

The road is a little rough and you need to watch out for the huge potholes. But, you’ll soon find a slice of paradise once you make it down to the parking area. The beach is isolated. There are no facilities here at all. Pack a lunch and bring a cooler of drinks for the perfect beach day.

Can’t Miss: After parking walk down to the far right side of the beach for the perfect spot to lounge on a huge sandbar.

Address: M27J+C7W, Steventon, Bahamas

Sea Turtle 3

3. Feed the Turtles at Hooper’s Bay Beach

Hooper’s Bay Beach is a gorgeous strip of land with crystal-clear water and lots of space to spread out and relax. The path down to the beach is a bit treacherous, but once you’re there you’ll be rewarded with some of the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. One other unique aspect of this beach are its residents. Sea turtles hang out here in hopes of getting fed by visitors. Buy them some lettuce or frozen squid and you’ll quickly have some swimming around you.

Can’t Miss: Head near the docks to find the most turtles. Just watch your fingers as they are not shy.

Address: Look for the Beach Access signs near Prime Island Meats & Deli and then head down the path for access.

Exuma Sharks

2. Hire a Boat for the Day

Hiring a boat will allow you to access many of the other cays (islands) within Exuma. There are 365 islands here and many great spots to stop and snorkel, swim, and visit the wildlife. Here you can swim with sharks, visit iguanas, and find all sorts of other creatures in the water nearby. Marvel at the famous Thunderball Grotto, snorkel at the stunning Coral Gardens, or bask in the secluded beauty of the deserted beaches on the remote cays. With every stop, you’ll be amazed by the pristine landscapes and the sheer tranquility of the surroundings. If you really want to splurge, you can charter a yacht for eight days here.

Can’t Miss: Cast your fears aside and dive in to swim with the gentle nurse sharks. These are the puppies of the sea and they love belly rubs.

Address: Various islands have different sights.

Swimming Pig

1. Swim with the Pigs at Pig Beach

One of Exuma’s most famous attractions is the legendary Pig Beach, where you can swim with the adorable and friendly swimming pigs. These charming creatures paddle in the crystal-clear waters, awaiting your arrival. Feed them, take selfies, and watch as they playfully swim alongside you. It’s an utterly unique experience that will leave you with lifelong memories. Just watch your backside as they can nip if you don’t pay enough attention to them.

Can’t Miss: Pack some apples and you’ll quickly make some piggy friends.

Address: Pig Island is located in the Exumas next to Staniel Cay.

Exuma is a treasure trove of natural wonders, offering an idyllic escape for those seeking tranquility, adventure, and breathtaking beauty. With its remarkable swimming pigs, stunning beaches, vibrant marine life, and captivating landscapes, Exuma is a destination that truly has it all.
