A Spirit Airlines passenger must have been in a hurry to make her flight at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) because she showed up to the check-in counter in her bathing suit (and possibly without the bottom half) or hiked up mini dress.

Spirit Airlines, like most carriers, outlines what can be worn on a plane in its contract of carriage (the terms you agree to when purchasing an airline ticket). The carrier’s states:

A guest shall not be permitted to board the aircraft or may be required to leave an aircraft if that guest is barefoot or inadequately clothed, or whose clothing is lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature.”

I am far from conservative and generally take a “live and let live” attitude, but this is not appropriate. It also grosses me out that her bare butt will be touching the seat where someone else will have to sit in the future since we know how well airlines clean planes.

While not as revealing as the recent incident involving a man walking naked through Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (more here), this did make me think of a woman I encountered a few years ago.

Woman ORD

Around Thanksgiving 2019, a woman was walking through Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in a see-through, mesh bodysuit without a bra or panties on. Parents pulled their children away, but she was quite oblivious to the stir her clothing was causing.

Anthony’s Take: While you don’t have to break out the formalwear to fly, some clothing (and not bathing suits or just underwear) is definitely necessary. You have to wonder what makes people think this is okay.

It may be that you aren’t as “far from conservative” as you think.

That has nothing to do with being conservative. This is a need for basic human decency and respect for oneself and others especially on a plane where you will be in close proximity to others. Taking showers, being clothed, not loud, not belching are all examples of basic respect. And while there are those who may have mental health issues and exhibit some of these behaviors there are others who simply dont have any respect for others.

While she may have appeared oblivious, I have a feeling the woman in the mesh bodysuit without undergarments was perfectly aware she was dressed provocatively and garnering attention. She may not have believed there was anything “wrong” with wearing her clothing choice in public, but she assuredly chose it to get attention.

The lady in orange in the picture? Er, hard to tell her motivation, she may not be aware of much of anything. I mean, even you don’t respect other people’s right not to have to sit where your bare behind is percolating sweat and germs (and god knows what else) all over a cloth airplane seat, who in their right mind would want their own bare butt touching an airplane seat? I don’t even like my hands to touch the seat.

I think both women have some issues of one kind or another.

Gracias.

Who would want there bare butt touching a airplane seat for other people 🤔 to seat behind them? That’s percolating sweat and germs and who knows what else ? She got the attention she wanted.
