American Express and CLEAR announced today that the credit card issuer will continue to offer reimbursement of CLEAR Plus memberships with select cards. This can save cardholders $189 per year.
I’ve written a lot about CLEAR and find that it’s a good membership to have in your travel toolkit. The service continues to expand with new airports added almost monthly. CLEAR has saved me tons of time through the years. Having CLEAR Plus ensures that I will get through security quickly and I don’t even need to take out my ID.
I’ve benefited from holding United Premier 1K®, Delta Diamond Medallion, and carrying both The Platinum Card® from American Express and the American Express® Green Card. Both of those cards as well as the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, Business Platinum Card®, and The American Express Corporate Platinum Card® offer $189 CLEAR Plus credits.
Kenneth Cornick, CLEAR’s President and Chief Financial Officer, said:
CLEAR makes the customer experience safer and easier, bringing predictability to the friction-filled airport experience. We are excited to continue our partnership with American Express. Together, we are committed to delivering the best experiences to our customers and members.”

How to Enroll in CLEAR Plus
1. Select the “Enroll at CLEAR” button to be taken to Clearme.com to enroll or click here.
2. To receive this benefit, sign up for a CLEAR Plus Membership and use an eligible American Express Card as the form of payment. Existing CLEAR Plus Members can log into their CLEAR account and update payment method to an eligible Card.
3. The Basic Card Member will receive up to $189 in statement credits per calendar year when they or Additional Card Members on their Account pay for a CLEAR Plus Membership with their Card. However, statement credits will only be provided for a total of $189 per calendar year, per Card Account.
4. Statement credits are typically received within a few days, but may take up to 6-8 weeks after a CLEAR Plus Membership fee is charged to the Card Account.
5. In order to fully enroll in CLEAR Plus, you must complete enrollment at an airport CLEAR location with a valid government-issued ID. Once fully enrolled, CLEAR Plus Memberships are automatically renewed each year and the cost of the Membership will be charged to the Card on file.
Anthony’s Take: I have found my CLEAR Plus membership to be a great timesaver in most cases. When coupled with TSA PreCheck, I know that I can get through security quickly. It’s great to see the partnership with American Express extended.
