American Airlines flight attendant, Celinda Levno, was fatally stabbed while on a layover in Denver. The incident occurred at the 16th Street Mall yesterday evening.

Levno had flown into Denver International Airport (DEN) and was downtown when she was attacked. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead this morning. The suspect is at large and in addition to killing Levno, two other male victims were also stabbed. They have non-life-threatening injuries and are currently in stable condition.

The 71-year-old flight attendant was based at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and began her career with America West 36 years ago. She was memorialized in a release from the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA). It reads:

With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of Phoenix-based Flight Attendant Celinda Levno while on layover in Denver. Celinda began her career with America West in 1989.

Celinda’s love for her horses, friends, and family will always be remembered. We stand in support with Celinda’s family, friends, and our colleagues in Phoenix Inflight as they process this senseless tragedy.

While this tragic event did not take place at the layover hotel, crews laying over in downtown Denver will be temporarily relocated to a hotel near the Denver airport.

APFA Employee Assistance (EAP) is available to help Flight Attendants process this unexpected tragic loss.”

American Airlines also released a statement:

We are heartbroken and mourning the tragic loss of our colleague who was the victim of a senseless crime last night. Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones and colleagues, and we are doing all we can to assist law enforcement in its investigation.”

AZ Central reports that police are investigating this murder as well as the other two stabbings. There has been no motive or other information released as the case is ongoing. Levno leaves behind a husband and sister.

Anthony’s Take: It’s heartbreaking that this flight attendant was senselessly murdered while on a layover. My condolences to her friends and family. I hope the Denver police find the man responsible and that he is made to pay for his crimes.

The 16th Street Mall is a street……a pedestrian “mall”…..not a mall building.
