I’ve been making an effort to taste all of the dishes that United and Delta are offering domestic First Class passengers. Some of these dishes have been winners (like United’s amazing crab cakes) and others have been misses. I had not yet reviewed the Mezzi Rigatoni for this site, so I ordered the dish for dinner on my flight from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). While I was expecting Mezzi Rigatoni, I got something quite different.

UA Mezzi Rigatoni

I preordered the Mezzi Rigatoni to ensure that I was able to have it on the flight. It’s described as coming in a Vodka Sauce.

The flight attendants (who were quite rude throughout the flight to all of the passengers) were confused when they opened up my main dish. It was not Mezzi Rigatoni, but was pasta stuffed with Brie. While the dish was plenty tasty, I’m not exactly sure what it was and where it was meant to go as it was not what was on offer. The tray also included a nice green salad and a semolina roll (that was warmed).

UA Magnolia

Perhaps the best part of every United domestic First Class lunch or dinner these days is the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding. I have long been a huge fan of Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding. I first had it years ago in New York City and have since gone to the Chicago location for it many times. It’s creamy, a taste of home, and better than any dessert that United (or possibly any airline with the exception of a molten lava cake I had on Austrian Airlines years ago) has ever served. I wrote about this partnership in December and am so happy to keep consuming these little containers.

Anthony’s Take: While this meal was not what I ordered or was expecting, it was plenty tasty. I’ll try again to get the Mezzi Rigatoni for review purposes. I’ll also need to taste the Banana Pudding a few dozen more times (for research purposes, of course).
