American Airlines flight AA1722 departed New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and was just beginning its flight to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) when a bird strike damaged one of the Airbus A321’s engines and caused the flight to make an emergency landing at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Jarring video taken by a passenger shows a poor bird sucked into the engine, which then emits a ball of fire. Poor bird. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and the aircraft landed without incident.
This led to the flight being cancelled.
Anthony’s Take: Luckily, no injuries were reported (except for the bird) and the pilots were able to land without incident. Bird strikes happen fairly often and are costly to the airlines that need to worry about the damage done to aircraft engines.

LGA-CLT is cursed. US Airways 1549 was on a LGA-CLT route when it crash landed in the Hudson due to a bird strike.
