We’re in The Bahamas this weekend. We were in Tampa to check on our home there and took a quick flight from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) on Silver Airways. The regional carrier serves the southeastern United States and Caribbean. The flight was quick and uneventful with only a handful of passengers on board.
Anthony’s Take: It’s been a while since I’ve flown Silver Airways. We were supposed to fly them from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Tampa International Airport (TPA) back in May, but the flight was so severely delayed that we drove home instead. This flight was on time, arrived early, had a friendly flight attendant, and made travel to The Bahamas a breeze.
Booking
I booked the flight directly with Silver Airways. United Airlines and JetBlue are partners and miles can be credited to either program. The tickets were each $418.11 roundtrip. I had a flight credit to use that lowered the price a bit. Silver Airways offers three booking classes: Escape, Freedom, and Refundable. These were booked in Freedom, which allows flight changes and seat assignments. Check-in online was quick and painless. Our TSA PreCheck® was populated and we were through security quickly.
Boarding
The flight was on time and we began boarding on schedule. The gate agent called for everyone to board together. There were only 11 passengers on the 46-seat aircraft. Boarding was quick and we were on our way. My standard-size Tumi rollaboard fit in the overhead bin.
Seats
We were seated in the bulkhead in seats 1A and 1C. Seats 1D and 1F were also open throughout the flight.
The bulkhead seats are spacious as they double as emergency exit row seats. The other rows looked to have limited pitch and would be pretty tight.
The seats had limited recline. There are individual air nozzles and reading lights above each seat.
A closet is located at the front of the aircraft. The flight attendant did her safety demo near this closet.
Food
There is no food on board the aircraft. Water bottles were provided around 30 minutes into the flight.
Wi-Fi
The aircraft are not equipped with Wi-Fi or any type of entertainment.
Service
The flight attendant was friendly and she came through the cabin several times to collect trash. There was nothing else for her to do, so she stayed in the back of the aircraft for the rest of the short flight.
Overall Impression: This Silver Airways flight was an easy way to get to Nassau. We’re flying back to Tampa International Airport (TPA) soon and I hope that flight goes as well.
