Both The Platinum Card® from American Express and the American Express Gold Card both offer monthly Uber credits that may be used for Uber and Uber Eats orders. These credits were allocated at $15 or $10 monthly (with a $20 credit from The Platinum Card® from American Express in December). These were essentially cash in the past, but American Express has just made these credits a bit more restrictive.

Amex Uber Cash

Effective November 8th, in addition to having Uber Cash toggled on, an American Express Card must be selected as the payment method to redeem Uber Cash received through these benefits. Unused Uber Cash earned through these promos will expire at the end of the month (as it currently does). Platinum Card Members will still be granted Uber VIP status and get access to top-rated drivers, where available.

Anthony’s Take: This is no issue for me. I’m fine using my Amex cards in order to earn this Uber Cash monthly.

What about when you have extra Uber cash? If the ride is $50 and I have $15 from Amex and another $50 in Uber Cash do I still need to use Amex to use the Uber cash from Amex (ie it wouldn’t use the $15 credit expiring first)?
