Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) opened its new Terminal A in January 2023. The new terminal is gorgeous with over one million square feet of space and 33 gates. There are tons of dining and shopping options here including Starbucks. Unfortunately, the location caught fire this morning and caused an evacuation of the terminal.

The blaze has apparently caused the sprinklers to go off and shut down elevators, escalators, and baggage belts. Passengers were evacuated and security checkpoints were not allowing others through.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

On the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) X feed, the airport is calling the fire a “building utility issue.” Flights were seeing delays of up to three hours, but the fire was handled and security checkpoints have returned to normal according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Terminal A is home to American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Air Canada, and some United Airlines flights.

Anthony’s Take: I’d rather see the Dunkin’® burn than my favorite, Starbucks. All kidding aside, I’m glad this was quickly contained without injuries and that operations are back on track.
